Hailing from France and the Netherlands, van Gelder Inc.’s founders Mariette and Sal van Gelder,
brought with them a new perspective of flooring that had yet to catch on in the Americas.

They seized the opportunity to change the landscape of commercial flooring in 1978, by offering world-class
needlepunch products designed to perform in areas beyond what was considered possible. In 2004, the
Portico Systems brand was created to help expand vG’s footprint across the United States, working directly
with national retailers.
